At first the area was mostly rural with a small motel, now gone, and storage fields for industrial and oilfield equipment. Then the city expanded the roadway system and created a cloverleaf system. The houses soon followed. Today all but about 17 percent of the properties are single family homes. Roughly 73 percent of properties are owner occupied.

Schools in the area include Marlborough Elementary, Chris Akkerman Elementary and Bob Edwards Junior High, all part of the Calgary Public School System. The Catholic St. Mark Elementary is also available. Calgary’s LRT C-Train stops at Marlborough Station and the area has its own Marlborough Mall in the southwestern end of the neighbourhood.
