Cougar Ridge was annexed to the City of Calgary in 1995 and was established in 2001. It is located in the south-west quadrant on the western edge of Calgary, Alberta. It is bounded by 69 Street W to the east, to the north by Paskapoo Slopes and Canada Olympic Park, to the west by 101 Street W and by Old Banff Coach Road to the south. For sports minded residents, it offers a tremendous advantage due to Olympic Park being located in the north-east corner of the community. Olympic Park Village was built on the escarpment facing Sarcee Trail and the Bow River to host athletes during the 1988 Winter Olympics. These were subsequently converted to condominiums. The community is located in Ward 6 of the City of Calgary and Richard Pootmans is Councilman for the area. Cougar Ridge borders on the communities of West Springs, Springside, Wentworth, Patterson Heights, Coach Hill, Bowness, Patterson, Strathcona Park, Prominence Point and Aspen Woods. According to the 2014 Calgary Civic Census, Cougar Ridge had a population of 6,702 with 2,082 occupied dwellings of which 91% were owner-occupied.

There are numerous activities offered including a large fund-raising charity Stampede Breakfast where a large donation is made to the Alberta Children’s Hospital Foundation every year. Numerous sports are available such as Adult Slo-Pitch, Yoga, Soccer, Snowboarding, Baseball, Hockey and numerous other opportunities.
