When you are looking for a place to call home - often it can be based on where you grew up . I am here to help you appreciate the outstanding neighbourhoods in this city . Let's start with the various quadrants in the city and highlight what comes to mind ! Calgary has a lot do great mature areas to look at in terms of schools , crime data , shopping and travel to work . The first place to always consider Is the southwest part of the city . Let's focus on a community called South wood .

Southwood is a great SW district .

This particular area is bordered by elbow drive and Anderson road . It has a lot of shopping along elbow drive and 14 street SW. Planet Organic , Bank of Montreal , Pizza Hut , Safeway and Starbucks are all very  close . It consists of lots of bus routes and really simple access to the downtown core . Gas stations including Petro Canada , Husky and even Esso off McLeod trail are very close . Walmart is super close for shopping and high schools , along with the LRT are right there . Real Canadian Superstore and natural parks are all nearby to make this a really desired location . This district has a lot of big back yards , older renovated Bungalows and Bilevel homes on quiet streets and even a dog park nearby .

Auburn bay is a nice SE district

Known for its new hospital area location and being of Seton blvd - this up and coming family friendly location is work in progress . Many families are making the move down south appreciate the affordable lifestyle of living in a lake community with incredible perks . That district is exploding with tons of activities and caters to consumers who really want the work - life - balance thing . Known for its community association -activities include girl guides , soccer , recreation , hockey , Halloween events and even Easter Hunts. Stampede events and senior programs also are a plenty in this part of the city .

Arbour lake shows off it's beauty in the NW

This is always ranked in the NW of the city as a Popular location for many reasons . First and foremost , this location is so well situated to schools and transit .The YMCA is right in the region also . Lifestyle dwellers will appreciate the year round events allowed by the community association . Tons of restaurants , movies and stores make this the spot . The big bonus of this is the access to downtown and even to the mountains in a short period of time . The lake is so stunning also especially in the very short summer months around .  Swimming , boating are fun times here and skating happens a ton in the winter months with families . Low crime rates and a great walk score make this a super selection for consideration .

Huntington Hills close to the Airport

With the explosive growth of all the new areas in the city is a long time favorite in this spot . An area full of charm and pride - you will see it with the well kept homes with little turnover here . Situated close to centre street and even Nose hill park -considered out side paradise to many locals , you just will love this location. With a high concentration of schools , you just can't ignore that . There is not a lot of turnover here due to the demographics . People that live here really don't move often . Known also for its support services in the area, many families enjoy the perks of this district over others .

One the best ways to learn about the various districts is to drive by them . Get a feel for the neighbourhood  and areas . Talk to neighbours , business owners and even local supermarkets . Get a sense of this special area and what the vibe night feel like !
